Information on HEG

The BrainMaster system can add either of the two main types of HEG systems.  These are nIR ("Toomim") and pIR ("Carmen").  In both cases, an additional head-mounted photelectronic sensor is placed on the trainee, and the system responds to the size of the signal.  nIR is "near infrared", and measures the amount of oxygen in the blood, hence metabolism.  pIR is "passive infrared" and is essentially a non-contact thermometer that measures the heat emitted from the brain, hence work.  While nIR can be thought of as measuring the "fuel", pIR can be thought of as measuring the "exhaust".  Both are very useful for training purposes.

BrainMaster works with both Dr. Hershel Toomim (BioComp Research Institute) and Dr. Jeffrey Carmen, to provide equipment that works with their sensors and clinical methods.

The attached document describes how the system works with HEG of either type.

In addition, the newer software versions (3.0+) have new HEG protocols for proportional, for fixed thresholds, and for various types of feedback including animations, movies, games, mp3 sound files, DVD's, CD's, etc.

The same approach, and protocols, can be used for temperature training, as well.  BrainMaster has a finger-type temperature sensor available as well, for temperature training.
